We work with agricultural cooperatives and NGOs to provide AI-powered crop yield insights and the best drip irrigation kits to farmers in drought-prone areas of Kenya and beyond.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior AI/ML Engineer to lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge machine learning models and algorithms to analyze weather patterns, soil conditions, and satellite imagery data for drought-prone regions in Kenya. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in building advanced analytics solutions that provide actionable insights to smallholder farmers, enabling them to make informed decisions on the best crops to plant each season.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and algorithms to process and analyze large datasets, including weather data, soil data, and satellite imagery.
Implement computer vision and image processing techniques to extract valuable information from satellite imagery.
Develop data preprocessing pipelines to clean, transform, and prepare data for model training.
Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to ensure the availability of high-quality data for model training and inference.
Optimize and fine-tune machine learning models for accuracy, performance, and scalability.
Integrate machine learning models into production systems and ensure smooth deployment and monitoring.
Continuously evaluate and improve existing models, staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including agronomists, product managers, and software engineers, to ensure successful implementation and adoption of AI/ML solutions.
Mentor and guide junior AI/ML engineers, fostering a culture of learning and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and deploying machine learning models and algorithms in production environments.
Strong proficiency in Python and relevant ML/DL frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
Experience with computer vision, image processing, and geospatial data analysis techniques.
Solid understanding of statistical techniques, data mining, and predictive modelling.
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Passion for using AI/ML technologies to drive positive social impact and improve agricultural practices.
