We work with agricultural cooperatives and NGOs to provide AI-powered crop yield insights and the best drip irrigation kits to farmers in drought-prone areas of Kenya and beyond. 

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior AI/ML Engineer to lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge machine learning models and algorithms to analyze weather patterns, soil conditions, and satellite imagery data for drought-prone regions in Kenya. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in building advanced analytics solutions that provide actionable insights to smallholder farmers, enabling them to make informed decisions on the best crops to plant each season.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and algorithms to process and analyze large datasets, including weather data, soil data, and satellite imagery.

• Implement computer vision and image processing techniques to extract valuable information from satellite imagery.

• Develop data preprocessing pipelines to clean, transform, and prepare data for model training.

• Collaborate with data engineers and scientists to ensure the availability of high-quality data for model training and inference.

• Optimize and fine-tune machine learning models for accuracy, performance, and scalability.

• Integrate machine learning models into production systems and ensure smooth deployment and monitoring.

• Continuously evaluate and improve existing models, staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including agronomists, product managers, and software engineers, to ensure successful implementation and adoption of AI/ML solutions.

• Mentor and guide junior AI/ML engineers, fostering a culture of learning and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and deploying machine learning models and algorithms in production environments.

• Strong proficiency in Python and relevant ML/DL frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.

• Experience with computer vision, image processing, and geospatial data analysis techniques.

• Solid understanding of statistical techniques, data mining, and predictive modelling.

• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Passion for using AI/ML technologies to drive positive social impact and improve agricultural practices.
